A diploma and oath ceremony was held on Wednesday, 13 July 2022 for 27 students who were entitled to graduate from the University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry in the 2021-2022 academic year.

The ceremony attend by Member of Parliament Fikri Toros, Member of Parliament Ahmet Savaşan, Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemre S. Günsel Haskasap, University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, Members of the Board of Trustees, Vice Rectors, Secretary General, Chief Physicians, Institute Directors, Deans, Deputy Deans, Heads of Departments, Vocational School Managers, faculty members, alumni, families and guests.

The graduation ceremony began with a moment of silence followed by the national anthem and music recital.

Dr. Suat Günsel Dental Hospital Chief Physician and Dean of University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner and University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu made the opening speeches of the ceremony, while the first ranked student of the faculty, Tuba Ökten, addressed the participants on behalf of the graduates.

After the opening speeches and following Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner’s last lecture, students recited their professional oath all together.

The event, in which diplomas and medals were presented to the top graduates, and a plaque was nailed on the faculty board, ended with the cutting of the graduation cake and the cocktail organized after the colourful dance show prepared by the students and the cap throwing ceremony.

Making the opening speech and giving the last lecture to the students before the oath ceremony, Dr. Suat Günsel Dental Hospital Chief Physician and Dean of University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner said that they are proud to have completed an honourable journey, which they embarked on in 2017, and to have their first graduates.

Prof. Dr. Çetiner during her speech expressed her gratitude to the entire Günsel family, especially Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel.

Later Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner addressed the families who are justifiably proud, the faculty members who brought the graduates to this day with their devoted work, and her young colleagues, whom she advised to become physicians who adopt Atatürk’s principles and adhere to universal values.
Dean of University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Serap Çetiner stated that the indispensable truth of science is to keep moving forward and develop; emphasizing that dentistry is a very special profession that combines art and science.

Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu “Graduation is one of the most important moments in life”
University of Kyrenia Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, on the other hand, started his speech by greeting the participants and said that one of the greatest happiness of the academicians is to witness the graduation of the students they teach.

He also stated that the happiness experienced today has a special meaning as University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry, which was established 5 years ago, has given its first 27 graduates, and thanked the Günsel family for their unwavering support throughout this process.
Continuing his speech by addressing the families and graduates who commend their children to them, Prof. Dr. Salihoğlu emphasized that graduation is one of the most important moments in one’s life.

Rector Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu underlined that the students, during their exciting university journey have overcome the pandemic process, which coincides with the clinical practice stage with the help of the devoted work of the Faculty of Dentistry academic staff and thanked them.
